How to catalyze a global movement towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in a way that transcends traditional conferences and digital campaigns? With an ambitious objective to reach 500 million young people and to visit 17 inspiring locations around the world, the United Nations needed an innovative approach to turn the 2030 Agenda from concept to action across diverse local communities.

A Ripple Effect Across The Globe

The Making Waves Festival is an inspiring global tour, focused on empowering communities, enhancing education, and promoting innovation to support the Sustainable Development Goals. Central to this initiative is the Clipper Stad Amsterdam, a magnificent sailing ship that will sail around the world, anchoring at all 17 cities hosting the Making Waves festival. Spanning two years, this project aims to create a lasting impact, steering us towards a more equitable and sustainable future. The Making Waves experience consists of five key touch points:

Clipper Stad Amsterdam:

This impressive sailing ship is at the heart of the SDG World Tour. Sailing to 17 cities in two years, it is a symbol of a journey towards the SDGs and a moving reminder of what the United Nation is working towards.

Light Art Festival:

At each city stop light installations will serve as a beacon for the SDGs, illuminating the night and sparking curiosity. These artworks transform public spaces into immersive experiences, bringing public attention to the Sustainable Development Goals.

Live shows:

Vibrant performances at each port celebrate local culture and talent, providing a dynamic platform for storytelling and engagement. These shows not only entertain but also unify audiences in support of the SDGs, creating more communal moments of inspiration.

Educational Workshops:

Interactive workshops and talks translate the SDGs into actionable insights, educating participants on global challenges and local impact. This theme ensures that the festival leaves a lasting knowledge legacy, empowering communities to continue the conversation and action.

Innovation & Change-Makers:

A key goal of Making Waves is spotlighting bright ideas and the people behind them by showcasing inventions and initiatives that are pushing us closer to the SDGs. It is a chance for creative minds to meet, share, and inspire more groundbreaking work.
